Pranav Mistry was born on 14 May 1981 in Palanpur, Gujarat. He is a Techonology scientist and Innovator. At present, he serves as Global Vice President of Research at Samsung and leading Think Tank Team that is actively working on inventing experience-centric future products and technologies. He is known for his contribution in innovations like SixthSense, Flow, Samsung Galaxy Gear and Project Beyond. His research interests include Wearable Computing, Augmented reality, Gestural interaction, AI, Machine vision, Collective intelligence and Robotics.

Education

He has completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the Nirma Institute of Technology in Ahmedabad one of renowned engineering institute in the state of Gujarat. He holds a master’s degree in Media Arts and Sciences from MIT and Master of Design from Industrial Design Centre, IIT Mumbai. Later he was a research assistant and a PhD candidate at MIT Media Lab.

SixthSense Technology

In his TED talks session, He briefly explained how he came up with this idea. He said “We grew up interacting with the physical objects around us unlike our computing devices, these objects are much more fun to use with.”  Like Mouse, that you can roll over and use to interact and perform actions on Computer Screen. Its fun. Being intuitive about technology, He was curious on how can these gestures be used to interact with computing device and how he can connect physical world and digital world seamlessly.

This led to his research on inventing such wearable devices that can interact with digital world by doing gestures. He started his research with using couple of mouse and ended up with creating a sixth sense device that can use almost any surface as an interface to transfer digital information.

Device has projector, mirror, camera that tracks all the gestures that you perform with your hands. Device lets you take photo of any place just by making gesture of taking photo instead of taking out a camera. This is just one of the many features that you can use device for.
